On the quantitative relationships between geophysical parameters and the natural C14 inventory

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik

Abstract

The relationships between observed variations of the specific radiocarbon activity in the atmosphere and possible secular variations in (1) C14 production rate, (2) carbon residence times, and (3) carbon reservoir size are calculated. As was shown byde Vries,Wood andLibby, and others, variations in these geophysical parameters which determine the natural C14 activity in the atmosphere are strongly attenuated. Attenuation coefficients and phase shifts are calculated quantitatively and results are shown graphically.
