Excess noise for a lattice gas model of a resistor

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik B Condensed Matter

Abstract

We model a resistor by a stochastic lattice gas: Charge carriers jump randomly to neighboring lattice sites and interact by the constraint of single site occupancy. In contrast to independently moving charge carriers, the excess noise to quadratic order in the driving force for this model behaves for small frequencies as ω-1/2, |logω|, ωd/2-1 for dimensionsd=1,2,3,..., respectively. We show that for this model the relationship between the excess noise and the four point current correlation function in equilibrium as proposed by Stanton and Nelkin becomes exact. This supports the view that the 1/f-noise may be related to the long time tail in the four point current correlation function.
