Summary

Gentamicin-PMMA chains represent a new form of local antibiotic therapy of chronic bone and soft tIssue infections. After radical removal of sequestered bone, soft tIssue necroses, and alloplastic material the infected cavity is filled with the chains and closed. The antibiotic is released in high concentrations far above the MIC and MBC of the etiologically important pathogens. The new method permits very early mobilization of the patient, eases the nursing care, and reduces costs because of shorter hospital stay. Systematic antibiotic therapy is not neceBary.

Gentamycin-PMMA-Ketten stellen eine neue Form lokalantibiotischer Behandlung bei chronischen Knochen- und Weichteilinfektionen dar. Nach radikaler Entfernung von Nekrosen, Sequestern und alloplastischen Fremdkörpern werden die infizierten Hohlräume mit den Ketten ausgefüllt und verschloBen. Das Antibioticum wird in Konzentrationen weit über der MHK und MBK der ätiologisch wichtigsten Erreger freigesetzt. Das neue Verfahren erlaubt frühe Mobilisierung des Patienten, erleichtert die Pflege und vermindert die Krankenhauskosten. Systematische Antibiotica-Therapie ist nicht erforderlich.
