Summary
The life cycle ofAcetabularia is described with special reference to nuclear divisions. Recent arguments, derived from the fields of cytology, genetics and systematics are in favour of the hypothesis, that meiosis occurs during the division of the primary nucleus. This hypothesis is summarized in a schematical representation of the whole life cycle.
