Summary
The term nerve sheath is to reserve only for the perineurium. The perineurium is composed of two parts, an external lamellar layer (Stratum externum [s. lamellare] perineurii) and an internal layer of a double cellular membrane (Stratum internum [s. cellulare] perineurii).
The diffusion barrier of the peripheral nerves is identical with the internal layer of the perineurium.
