Summary
An analytic perturbation theory is developed to calculate the inviscid nonisentropic flow of a perfect gas with constant specific heats past smooth two-dimensional airfoils with sharp leading edges. Characteristic coordinates are introduced as independent variables. The quantities of state and the local coordinates are considered as dependent variables and are expanded in terms of perturbation quantities. A simplified isentropic shock-expansion method is developed under the assumption, that the squares of the localMach numbers are large compared with the unity. The solutions obtained by this method are employed as the zero-order approximation for the perturbation theory. Analytic solutions are given for the first-order perturbation quantities and for the shock shape.
