Summary
In this report the use of chymotrypsin in the synthesis of a D-amino acid ester is described. The enzyme was modified to accept the D-form of a tryptophane derivative, by precipitating the enzyme-inhibitor complex between chymotrypsin and N-acetyl-D-tryptophane in 1-propanol. The precipitate was then used to synthesize N-acetyl-D-tryptophane ethyl ester in cyclhexane. The rate of the D-esterification was 7.5 nmole/mg enzyme·h.
