Summary
Liver tumors were observed in mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and dogs following the prolonged oral administration of diethylnitrosamine. Some were epithelial neoplasms of the liver cell carcinoma type. Mesenchymal tumors were found only in mice (hemangioendothelioma) and dogs (leiomyosarcoma). In the animal species examined diethylnitrosamine exhibited a specific organotropy of its cancerogenic properties (equivalent observations have been made by other authors in monkeys and fish), since only the liver was affected in almost all animals.
