Summary
Measurement of resistance of the eyeball to distension by combined applanation and Schiøtz tonometry may be seriously contaminated by expulsion of blood. The facility calculation of Moses & Becker (1958) is strongly affected by underestimate of distension resistance.
Measurement of ocular distension resistance by the method of Friedenwald (1937, 1957) is less affected by blood expulsion and is more appropriate to tonography.
A method is proposed to reduce the effect of initial blood expulsion on tonographic calculation.
The results of tonography calculated by the present method are similar to those obtained by the method of Grant (1950).
