Abstract

Gametocytes from the Honduras I/CDC clone HB-3 ofPlasmodium falciparum were exposed to different concentrations of primaquine diphosphate. It could be shown that the drug acts specifically on the mitochondria of the cells by destroying their internal structure and causing these organelles to swell.
