Abstract
The reaction of alkali phenoxides with 3-chloropropylene sulfide yields a mixture of the corresponding 3-aryloxypropylene sulfides and 3-aryloxythietanes, the ratio of them depending on the solvent used. The preparation of the aryloxypropylene sulfides preferably is carried out in diglyme, the purification is connected with difficulties. On the other side, the aryloxythietanes are stable substances which can easily be purified. Their preparation preferably is carried out in water.
