Abstract

Existing transhumance practices in the Gredos Mountains are studied and the origin, destination, number of livestock, livestock raiser characteristics, and environmental variables of winter and summer pasture areas and drovers roads are analyzed. The important ecological, economic, and cultural role of transhumance is emphasized and attention is drawn to the need for its support and conservation.
