The ortho-alkylation of catechol

Conclusions

    A method for the selective ortho-alkylation of catechol has been developed.

  2. 2.

    A number of new compounds have been obtained in this way, including the previously inaccessible sterically-hindred 3,6-di-tert-butylcatechol.
