Summary
Callus growth and its subsequent regeneration into complete plantlets was achieved from in vitro cultured anthers ofBrassica nigra (L.)Koch. Callus was induced on a modified N6 medium containing trace elements, organics of B5 medium and 2 mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Morphogenesis of callus in the form of shoots on MS medium containing indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and N6-benzyladenine (BA) 0.5 mg/l each and embryoids on MS medium containing 0.5–1.0 mg/l IAA and 3.0–5.0 mg/l BA could be accomplished. Chromosomal analysis revealed presence of 41% haploids (n=8) amongst the regenerated plants.
