Summary
The histological and histochemical findings of the eye are described in a case of Tay-Sachs disease.
Great amount of lipid were found in the cells of the ganglion layer and in the inner granular layer. The stored lipid proved to be gangliosid and has given a positiv PAS reaction, had a metachromatic staining quality and a polarisation effect. Its isoelectric point was at pH 3,4.
The authors called up the attention that the rate of storage can be different between the eye and other parts of the central nervous system
