Abstract
We discuss the possibility of inducing current steps in theI–V characteristic of Josephson junctions by a periodic modulation of their critical current amplitude. The particular characteristics of such amplitude modulation steps (as opposed to the usual phase modulation steps), as well as the experimental conditions appropriate to their observation, are outlined.
