Abstract
The microstructure of the cast superalloy IN-738 has been analysed after isochronal heat treatments (16 h) within the temperature range 773 to 1467 K. The effect of such heat treatments on the morphology, distribution and volume fraction of bothγ′ and carbide precipitates has been established and correlated with changes in the hardness. These measured hardness changes are discussed in relation to the contributions ofγ′ precipitation hardening and matrix solid solution hardening.
