A note on the pacemaker current in Purkinje fibers

Zusammenfassung

Unmittelbar nach einem Aktionspotential wurde das Membranpotential einer Purkinjefaser für einige 100 msec auf verschiedenen Werten festgehalten und der dabei fließende Schrittmacherstrom gemessen. Das Umkehrpotential des Schrittmacherstromes wurde in Abhängigkeit der Kalium-Konzentration bestimmt; es folgt der Nernt-Gleichung. Gleiche Werte wurden erhalten, als mit Hilfe einer Rampenfunktion die Strom-Spannungs-Kennlinie des Präparates registriert wurde.

Summary

At the end of an action potential of a Purkinje fiber the membrane potential was clamped for several 100 msec to different potential levels and the resulting pacemaker current was recorded. The reversal potential of the pacemaker current was determined at different concentrations of extracellular potassium ions and was shown to follow the Nernst-equation. Almost the same reversal potentials were found when the current-voltage relation was recorded by means of a ramp function.
