Summary

The authors studied one aspect of the cognitive behaviour of alcoholics, namely: the organization of their life events world. Collection and analysis of life events data was achieved through methods recently developed for life events research (the subject's life events were recorded by means of a pre-established questionnaire, then weighted according to the repercussions of each event on the subject's life). Various mathematical methods were used, including descriptive statistics and multidimensional analysis. Our preliminary results appear to indicate that alcoholics have a greater tendency to link life events than non-alcoholics. The dominant area in the life events world of alcoholics seems to vary according to sex, with men attributing greater meaning to work events, women to private life events.
