Conclusions

1. The thermal oxidative degradation of PAN fibres having an IA content from 1.2 to 6.4% in the copolymer has been studied by the DTA method.

2. Increasing the IA content of the copolymer leads to a shift of the exothermic effects of the cyclization reaction into the lower temperature region, and also to a decrease in the thermally effect from thermal oxidation, which affords a possibility of increasing the efficiency of processes of heat treatment of PAN in the preparation of carbon fibres and of reducing heat expenditures.
