Summary
Female albino rats received 500, 100, 30 and 10 ppm Bromophos respectively mixed with the daily standard diet for six weeks. After having returned to normal regimen, a part of the animals were still examined for further three weeks.
The learning rate and the performance of the rats was studied in maze-, orientation reaction- and conditioned reflex experiments. Electroencephalographic (EEG) experiments were done as well on alert rats, moving unrestricted, in rest and under flash-light loading consuming 500 and 100 ppm Bromophos respectively. There were alternations on the resting and loading EEG curves as well. In the psychophysiological experiments too, in all animals fed with the various doses, there were changes in the behavior, the seriousness of which paralelled the applied doses. Cholinesterase acivity diminished only in animals which consumed 500 and 100 ppm respectively. Thus EEG and psychophysiological tests seemed to be more sensitive, in detecting early intoxication caused by low volumes, than cholinesterase estimation.
