Summary
1. The concentration of pentobarbitone in the liver, kidney, brain, muscle and blood of mice treated with ethanol is higher and declines more slowly than in controls.
2. The concentration of barbitone is slightly increased in the liver and kidney of mice treated with ethanol, but unaltered in brain, muscle and blood.
3. An elevation of the concentration of thiopentone in the liver, kidney and brain of mice treated with ethanol is statistically not significant. The concentration in muscle and blood was not altered. The decline of the concentration of thiopentone is not affected by ethanol.
4. The elevation of the concentration of pentobarbitone in the brain of mice treated with ethanol may explain in part that pentobarbitone anesthesia is deepened and prolonged by ethanol resulting from an impaired degradation of pentobarbitone.
Zusammenfassung
