Summary
The quantitative or nearly quantitative separation of the ion pairs Rb+/Cs+, K+/Rb+, k+/Cs+, Na+/K+ and Li+/Na+ can be achieved with hydrochloric acid or ammonium chloride solutions as eluents by means of columns of titanium hexacyanoferrate(II). The elution of the Cs+ ions is not possible. In the same way the quantitative or nearly quantitative separation of the ion pairs Sr2+/Ba2+, Ca2+/Ba2+, Ba2+/Cs+ and Sr2+/Cs+ can be achieved. Also a partial separation of the rare-earth elements is possible; yttrium is more easily eluted than the lanthanides.
