Summary
In a controlled clinical study 106 patients with acute acoustic trauma are investigated. A polypragmatic therapy consisting of daily infusions of Dextran 40 and oral application of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Betahistin and Medazepam was administered. A control group was treated with NaCl infusions and glucose tablets.
Pure tone threshold curves written before and after therapy are taken as a measure for the evaluation of therapeutic results. Statistical analysis of these audiometric data is performed in a threefold manner, comparing mean threshold curves, absolute hearing gains and relative hearing gains. This is done for all test- and control groups, also regarding the interval between traumatic event and the beginning of the therapy. It is concluded that the polypragmatic therapy used in this trial does not exert an effect on acute acoustic trauma exceeding that of NaCl infusions and glucose tablets.
