Sudden hearing loss with no demonstrable remaining hearing rests in audiogram allows a tympanotomy in order to detect the rare case of a ruptured round window membrane. If the hearing loss did not last too long a closure of the round window fistula with a fascia graft may be tried. The results of this operation are demonstrated.
