Curriculum vitae. Ettore Rossi was born 1915 in Locarno, Switzerland. He graduated at the Medical Faculty of Milan. 1952 Privatdozent at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich. From 1954–1956 Assistant and Associate Professor at the Children's Hospital of Zurich (Head: Prof Guido Fanconi). 1956 he was elected Professor and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, University of Berne Medical School. Doctor honoris causa of the Universities of Rio de Janeiro, Clermont-Ferrand and Palermo. Corresponding member and honorary member of many pediatric associations. 1968–1976 Member of the “Schweizerische Wissenschaftsrat”. 1968 President of the European Society for Pediatric Research. 1970 President of the Medical-Scientific Advisory Council of the International Cystic Fibrosis Association. 1970 President of the Swiss Committee for Medical Education. 1972 Member of the “Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina”. 1977 Secretary-Treasurer of the International Pediatric Association. 1981 Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur de France.
