Studies on proteins of animal ribosomes

VII. Isolation of proteins from rat liver ribosomes, their molecular weights, amino acid compositions and secondary structure

Molecular and General Genetics MGG Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

  1. 1)

From the total protein mixture of rat liver ribosomes 31 proteins were isolated by CM-cellulose chromatography and subsequent gel filtration on Sephadex G 100 or Biogel P 10.

  2. 2)

Molecular weights of the proteins estimated by a sedimentation equilibrium method range from 10000 to 30000. The values are in good agreement with data obtained from gel filtrations on Biogel P 10 in 1.0 M propionic acid.

  3. 3)

The amino acid compositions of the proteins are similar. They differ only in the content of certain amino acids.

  4. 4)

Circular dichroic spectra of the proteins between 200 and 300 nm indicate a small content of ordered structures.
