Summary

In addition to the cryptic lambdoid prophage genes that are known to reside at the rac locus in Escherichia coli K12 strains, a second cryptic lambdoid prophage has been located near the gal operon. This prophage was shown to contain DNA that is homologous to the QSR genes of λ phage.
