Zusammenfassung

Thiospirillum jenense enthält Lycopin und Rhodopin, von denen letzteres überwiegt (88%). In Anbetracht des hohen Gesamtgehalts (15–20 μg Carotinoide/mg Protein) ist Thiospirillum die beste bekannte Quelle für Rhodopin.

Chromatium vinosum ist durch eine ähnliche Carotinoidverteilung gekennzeichnet wie Chromatium Stamm D. Es synthetisiert die Carotinoide der sogenannten Spirilloxanthin-Reihe. Mit einer Ausnahme wurden alle Intermediären zwischen Lycopin und Spirilloxanthin aufgefunden.

Summary

Thiospirillum jenense produces lycopene and rhodopin. This bacterium is characterized by a very high carotenoid content, and is the best known source of rhodopin.

The carotenoid composition of Chromatium vinosum is similar to that previously reported for Chromatium strain D. It synthesizes carotenoids of the so-called spirilloxanthin series, and with one exception, all intermediates between lycopene and spirilloxanthin were found to be present.
