2,3-Dihydroxybenzoic acid and its amino acid derivatives in the culture medium of Klebsiella oxytoca

Summary

Strains of the species Klebsiella oxytoca growing on glucose or gluconate medium accumulate 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid, its serin and threonine derivative. These strains also accumulate two compounds exhibiting fluorescence under ultraviolet radiation. One of these is probably a phosphoric ester. The formation of both substances could be partially inhibited by the tryptophane.
