Summary
Case histories of five patients are presented who developed severe postural hypotension after being treated with guanacline. The postural hypotension did not develop until treatment had been given for 3–4 months and has persisted following withdrawal of guanacline for 12–15 months. It is suggested that this drug causes irreversible depletion of noradrenaline stores in adrenergic nerve terminals in some patients.
