Chiasma-localisation in Mecostethus grossus L. and Metrioptera brachyptera L. (Orthoptera)

Summary

  1. (1)

In Mecostethus grossus chiasma-localisation affects the chromosomes to different degrees. One individual was found showing unusual variability in regard to chiasma frequency.

  2. (2)

Metrioptera brachyptera (Tettigoniidae) shows chiasma-localisation, at any rate in the five larger bivalents. As in Mecostethus the different bivalents are unequally affected.

  3. (3)

In both species the relation between chiasma-frequency and chromosome length is an indirect one, some of the smaller bivalents having a higher chiasma frequency than larger ones.

  4. (4)

The causes of chiasma-loealisation are briefly discussed.
