Summary
Cultured Syrian hamster and human fibroblasts were hybridized by means of Sendai virus. The hybrids were selected chemically. They show preferential loss of human chromosomes and biochemical markers. Therefore they can be used for gene linkage and localization studies in man. Hybrids between Syrian hamster and fibroblasts of a human translocation carrier (46,X,t(14q+,Xq-)) enabled the assignment of the human nucleoside phosphorylase gene to chromosome 14 to be confirmed.
