Summary
-
1.
In the rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) the oocyte is intimately connected with the surrounding follicle cells. Long processes of the latter penetrate the zona pellucida and thickened end bulbs of the processes adhere to the oolemma by means of desmosomes.
-
2.
Microvilli enlarge the surface area of the oocyte thus increasing its capacity for absorption.
-
3.
A notable spatial relationship of the Golgi complexes in the oocyte opposite the end bulbs of the follicle cells suggests a metabolic exchange.
-
4.
The agranular endoplasmic reticulum of the oocyte is primarily vesicular; the vesicles probably store nutritive substances.
-
5.
Besides the agranular endoplasmic reticulum, there are special granular forms of endoplasmic reticulum with bent parallel double membranes enclosing lipid droplets and communicating with the agranular endoplasmic reticulum.
-
6.
Pinocytotic vesicles are formed at the oolemma and aggregate to form multivesicular bodies within the cortex.
-
7.
Mitochondria, cytosomes and fat droplets are distributed randomly in the ooplasm. Most mitochondria differ from the normal type in that peripheral double membranes replace their cristae. This is suggestive of a low oxidative metabolism of the cell.
-
8.
The cortical granules in the oocyte participate in the formation of the fertilization membrane.
-
9.
The nucleus is surrounded by a double membrane containing pores. The inner lamella is thicker than the outer one.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
