The effect of an autoionizing state in the double-resonant four-wave sum mixing in Hg

Abstract

Four-wave sum mixing (4-WSM) generation in Hg vapors, using the two-photon resonance 61 S 0–81 S 0 transition and near the 6p3 D 1 autoionizing state is experimentally investigated. The wavelength dependence of the Hg atomic contribution to the wavevector mismatch and results related to the characteristics of the generated spectrum are presented. The effect on the spectrum profile by Hg number density, and the detuning from the two-photon resonance is studied along with the effect of the He buffer gas on the phase matching. Optimum conditions of operation are suggested.
