Abstract
The chiasmatic association of the heteromorphic sex chromosomes in the spermatocytes of the Chinese hamster was observed in squash and/or air-dried preparations. The pairing arm of the Y was invariably its short arm. Although the X in diakinesis did not show distinct long and short arm as in mitotic metaphase, the DNA replication patterns of the sex chromosomes in spermatogonia suggested that the distal segment of the long arm of the X is homologous to the short arm of the Y.
