Abstract

The synchronization of atomic quantum transitions with natural Raman oscillations by ultrashort light pulses has been investigated. This phenomenon may be observed if the duration of the perturbation pulse is less than the period of oscillations of the forbidden atomic transitions. The accuracy of the direct measurements of the quantum transition times for trapped particles can be of the same order as the ratio of the two-photon transition frequency to the homogeneous line width.
