Optimization of pulse duration for electrical stimulation in treatment of urinary incontinence

  • Published:
World Journal of Urology Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Vaginal and anal sensory thresholds as well as periurethral sphincter muscle motor thresholds were determined in a group of neurologically healthy patients, and an 0.2 ms pulse duration was found to have the optimum pulse charge/pulse duration and pulse energy/pulse duration relationship. This is significant for further studies of therapeutic stimulation for urinary incontinence, where a pulse duration of around 1 ms is now commonly used.
