On the distribution of acid phosphatase among the olfactory neurons of some vertebrates

  • Published:
Histochemie Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

The present study incorporates a detailed consideration of the intracellular distribution of acid phosphatase amongst the olfactory neurons of rat, bat, mouse, chicken, frog and uromastix and their processes. The enzyme is localized in the lysosomes and the distribution of the lysosomes vary in relation to the metabolic and physiological needs of the different constituents of the olfactory areas of these animals. The significance of such variations has been discussed from the functional point of view of the lysosomes.
