Summary
The catalytic efficiency of peroxidase-like metalloporphyrins has been studied for catalyzing the chromogenic reaction of 4-aminoantipyrine and p-chlorophenic acid with hydrogen peroxide. These metalloporphyrins include hemin and the complexes of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pt, Rh and Pd with tetrakis(N-methylpyridinium)porphyrin (TMPyP), of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ag and Sn with tetrakis(sulphophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS4), and of Fe with tetrakis(4-(N,N,N-trimethylaminophenyl)porphyrin (TAPP). It has been found that the complexes of Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Ag, Pt, Pd and Rh catalyzed the formation of the chromogenic product, while those of Ni, Zn and Sn did not. Traces of hydrogen peroxide and, indirectly, glucose can be determined by means of the metalloporphyrins. The characteristics of peroxidase-like metalloporphyrins have been compared with those of horseradish peroxidase.
