Abstract
In the present communication a simple spectrophotometric method for the determination of Zn is described. The method is based on the reaction of Zn with the newly synthesized reagent o-carboxyphenyl-diazoaminoazobenzene in an alkaline medium where the reagent is in the aci-form. The complex exhibits an absorption maximum at 530 nm and Beer's law is valid over the concentration range of 0.0001 to 0.0008 mg mL−1. Various analytical parameeters for colour development have been studied. The method has been successfully applied for the determination of Zn in tap water, milk and standard Zn samples.
