Expression of the β-glucuronidase gene under the control of the CaMV 35S promoter in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Summary

We have transformed Schizosaccharomyces pombe with the β-glucuronidase (GUS) gene from Escherichia coli under the control of the plant cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter element. Efficient expression of GUS enzyme was observed. Moreover, transcription initiated at a unique site identical to that used in plant cells.
