Summary
The effect of radiation on the mechanical behaviour of the crosslinked copolymer of maleic anhydride and styrene containing photochromic azo groups was investigated. The analysis of results of the observed photomechanical conversion proved a considerable influence of the thermal effect in addition to the effect of photoisomerization of the photochrome. The interpretation of some photomechanical experiments described earlier may be obscured by a rise in temperature caused by the absorption of radiation.
