Summary

Blockade of pulmonary-stretch-receptors has been produced in guinea-pigs under artifical respiration and urethan by Dodecyl-polyäthylenoxyd-ether. This was administered either by a long lasting intravenuous infusion alone or by adding further amounts intravenously at intervals. This blockade of stretch-receptors which depends on the total dose administered can be controlled at will as a partial or complete endoanaesthesia. There was virtually no change of ECG. The endoanaesthesia was reversible and it took about 1 1/2 hrs until the maximum blockade had been reduced to 50%. The minimum dose producing partial endonaesthesia was 0.7 mg/kg i.v. The dose producing complete, endoanaesthesia was 11 mg/kg i.v.

The whole course of endoanaesthesia and recovery from it was continuously recorded by a special procedure and plotted as a curve against time.
