Type III bursts

Abstract

One of the purposes of this paper is to stress the fact that the solar type III radio burst is not the simple phenomenon it is sometimes suggested to be. Therefore we present in sections 1 to 7 its various properties derived from observations of the past 20 years. In Section 2 a few theories invoked to describe the basic features are reviewed. This may serve as an introduction to the subject.
