Specific heat of solid helium

  • Published:
Journal of Low Temperature Physics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

The specific heat of bcc 3He has been measured from 25 mK to near the melting curve, with particular attention given to the region of the low-temperature anomaly, T500 mK. The data have been analyzed in various ways to show the temperature and molar volume dependence of the specific heat. In the region of the anomaly the specific heat has a term linear in T, in addition to a T 3 term. The data at the lowest temperatures for two large-molar-volume bcc 3He samples have been used to determine the nuclear exchange energy J. The values of J found are in agreement with previous results.
