Stability of axial orbits in analytical galactic potentials

Abstract

We study the stability of axial orbits in analytical galactic potentials as a function of the energy of the orbit and the ellipticity of the potential. The problem is solved by an analytical method, the validity of which is not limited to small amplitudes. The lines of neutral stability divide the parameter space in regions corresponding to different organizations of the main families of orbits in the symmetry planes.
