Ecological studies of some aquatic phycomycetes

Summary

A survey of the phycomycete flora of three types of collecting stations in Allahabad was made for a year. Twelve species were recorded, belonging to the Saprolegniales, Blastocladiales and Peronosporales. The results indicate that the rarity of many of the aquatic phycomycetes may be due not only to specificity of substratum but also to temperature and the time needed for maturation of the oospores. There is a distinct seasonal periodicity of growth which is mainly restricted to winter months.
