Research on pollen distribution in onion seed fields

Summary

Pollination trials with onions (Allium cepa L.) in the Netherlands in 1964 have shown that self-fertilisation averaged 9%. The pollen grains of an onion plant were found distributed mainly over the neighbours.

Uit bestuivingsproeven bleek dat het percentage zelfbevruchting bij de ui onder Nederlandse omstandigheden in 1964 gemiddeld 9 bedroeg. Het stuifmeel van een uienplant bleek voornamelijk over de naaste buurplanten te worden verspreid.
