Aquatic microflora enumeration by means of adenylic nucleotides dosage

Abstract

A good parallelism exists between bacterial enumeration on an agar medium and the pool quantity determination of adenylic nucleotides. The energetic charge is an important parameter to evaluate the metabolic activity of microorganisms. After microscopic verification, it has been shown that different filtrations allow to separate and to count the various populations (phytoplankton, zooplankton, bacteria) by means of ATP content. The development cycle of microorganisms in a lake has been followed. Primary production of the micro-biomass is easily calculated by the variation of ATP content.
